Final Project: Selection of Topics

As I start on the most critical stage of my design education, the final project, I was asked to select any 3 topics about which I feel is a big deal to me or something that I could sustain with for next 6 months of my life.
Selected topics later had to be mind mapped individually.

As a big technology enthusiast, one of the topics I chose is ‘Modular Computers’. As the name suggests it was based around the modular side of computer components and its assembly. My goal here was to present a more sustainable design which should be future proof (at least for 5 years) and mainly based on a centered console.

Acer Revo Build Series

Meaning no wires and finicky connectors but just components which could be attached to the main hardware. Something like LEGO blocks. Additional ideas were to make this design a hybrid of Laptop and Desktop. Since most of us now have multiple PC’s, I was trying to come to a single user single PC environment combined with an All-in-One PC. But as small and major tech-giants have already been experimenting on fully Modular Computers like

Razer’s Project Christine
Acer’s Revo Build Series
Total Geekdom’s Micro LEGO computer.
XI3 Corp. X7A modular computer (introduced this year at the Consumer Electronic Show).

Finally I decided to drop this idea because of the dynamic nature of the computer industry and the design would’ve needed a big investment and expertise from the area.
